deviantART, the art thief's best friend.

Mon Nov 23, 2009, 10:51 AM
Ironically, I can't go any further into the issue lest I be the one who get in trouble. But, really, just what DOES it take for something to be theft on this site? I want to know.

I sniffed around a bit. Tracing is ALLOWED? That's different from when I joined up, if I recall correctly. I'd start watermarking my stuff, but I know that won't prevent tracing.

I guess all I can really do is try not to worry about it too much. Hope the frauds get exposed, and secretly hope some this policy attracts the ire of an artist with some free time and a good lawyer.

My OTHER project is almost finished.

My cousin and I have been working on this Goblet of Fire riff for months now, and it's almost finished.

I have a preview of it that can be viewed here.

The commentary track will be up for sale soon. I'm in the post-production phase right now. It's tedious as hell, but I hope to have it all done by the end of the month.

I've been getting a lot of requests for this...

Tue Mar 31, 2009, 10:30 PM
A whole slew of people have asked me if they can use some of my stuff to make tags, backgrounds, etc. And if I allow tubing. And since I'm rather lazy about responding to each one, I'm going to make a blanked statement here.

Yes, you may use my work for these purposes, BUT!, I have a few stipulations, none of which should be out of the ordinary:

1. It's not to be used for profit. If it's a situation where I'D be getting a piece of it myself, I might be open to that, but it's something I'd have to discuss on a case-by-case basis.

2. My work is not to be presented as anyone else's work. It's a fancy way of saying I want to be credited. A link to this gallery would be a good start.

3. It is not to be used to promote any political or social ideology or issue. Even if you think its something I'd agree with, you can't be sure. You're welcome to seek special permission, but don't be offended if I say no.

4. My work is not to be portrayed negatively. This one is probably superfluous as anyone who'd use my work to insult me would be unlikely to seek my permission first. All the same, I think it's worth mentioning.

5. Finally, let me see it! That's not a condition so much as a request. It's not so I can closely scrutinize it, I'm just curious to see what you come up with. I'm seen a couple already and they're very nice.

And if you want to do something that's not mentioned here, feel free to drop me a line.

Busy month.

Well, I've been working o different project that's taken up a lot of the time I would normally spend drawing something.

Instead I've been writing. I've been working on one of these with my cousin Matt. Lots of writing, lots of sitting there trying to think of the best wisecrack to make. We finished the script this weekend.

The movie I chose for riffing was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and that's a 2 hour, 22-minute movie (after deducting the credits' run time). And as a rule, you want no more than 5-7 seconds of silence between jokes. That's a shit ton of humorous quips to write.

But, I think the script is funny, and now that it's written, I think I can get back to drawing stuff. I'd wanted to do a St. Patrick's Day piece, but that didn't quite work out. I think I will upload the one I did for St. Patrick's Day... 2005 I believe. I mean, I was intending on the '09 incarnation to look very similar. ^_^

And I do have an idea for a NEW piece. It just came today, and I think it'll be kinda cool.

I still have work to do on the Riff. But I think the recording and editing will be easier in the fact that I'll know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. All action, no sitting and having to think up anything.

Scannerless.

But I'll rectify that as soon as possible.

I got hit with a power surge last week. Fried just about every electronic device I had plugged in. Which, for starters, indicates to me that labeling a product as a "surge protector" is just a marketing gimmick because they did absolute dog shit to protect me from the surge.

It wouldn't be as big a deal if Christmas and New Years weren't looming overhead. I didn't get to do any of that stuff last year because of the health problems I had at the time.

The GOOD news is because of said health problems, I have ONE partially completed seasonal piece. I intended to finish it for this year, and since it's in the inking stage, I don't need a scanner to finish it.

And I imagine I can get a replacement before it becomes problematic. And if it takes too long, I have a cousin who'd probably be glad to scan a few pencil drawings for me to get me through the holiday season.
